On October 17th 2009, Bedfordshire Rollergirls finally got to do what we've been training for since March - play together as a team, for the very first time!
Royal Windsor Rollergirls invited us to play in a closed door (friendly) bout in High Wycombe, so in spite of tight deadlines and a largely untested team, we gladly accepted.
We took three guests with us - Darmonatrix, Tara Bitch Down and Hermaphrodite from Romsey Town Rollerbilles, as well as the recently injured Jolly Green Genocide to be our bench manager - Thanks ladies, we really couldn't have done it without you!
As for the bout itself - we were totally unprepared for the slippy floor and took a while to get to grips(!) with it's glassy surface - spare wheels for all next time! That, and our inexperience as a team left us down 18 - 100 at half time.
However, a half time pep talk, some positive mental attitude and a bit of actual tactics for the second half saw us pick up the pace, leaving the final score a most respectable 60 - 168 to Windsor.
Thanks to RWRG for an amazing day, our lovely goodie bags and an awesome afterparty - we learnt SO much as a team, and popped the derby cherry of a large proportion of our team. You are a truely class act RWRG!
We can't wait for the re-match in 2010!
