BRG vs RCRG (B)
October 30th 2010 started off pretty well with a great feature and live interview on Three Counties Radio - we got to plug the team and get a mention for our upcoming bout later that day - playing Rainy City Rollergirl's B team, The Tender Hooligans.
I think it's fair to say it ended pretty well too!
We were all rather nervous playing the Tender Hooligans - Manchester's league having a fearsome reputation and some very convincing recent victories but our near miss against Croydon last month had boosted our confidence and we've been practising hard.
The practise paid off - we were able to play tactically and react to the Hooligan's own strategies when we needed to, putting us in the lead 46-20 at half time.
But we'd been here before - and Rainy City came at us hard in the second half with some very big hitters and great tactical play.
It eventually all came down to the last jam and could have so easily gone the other way but we managed to hold on to our lead and win 66-59! It was a truely great bout, nail bitingly close and followed by another tense bout when the RCRG 'A' team played Glasgow - and won! MASSIVE Kudos to all the skaters from Rainy City that played in both bouts - I don't know how you did it!
HUGE thanks as ever to Hermaphrodite from Romsey Town Rollerbillies and special 'well dones!' to our bout virgins Led Head, Little Miss Malicious and The Valkryie from Milton Keynes Concrete Cows, Claire in the Community for stepping in at the last minute and doing a sterling job as Lineup manager (we missed you Viaggro! xx)... as well of course to our lovely hosts the Rainy City Rollergirls and all their support staff. Thanks for having us RCRG!!
